DVRSYSTEMS.NET has developed a direct IP camera
integration with our XOS DVR series. This gives you the ability to
connect IP cameras directly to the DVR. Many so-called hybrid DVR
integrations use expensive encoders or decoders to send IP video to the
DVR. With the XOS DVR you can configure the IP address of the Camera
directly in the DVR. This allows you to connect your DVR to cameras that
are offsite or in different buildings, eliminating multiple DVR’s or
expensive fiber networks. An additional benefit is the use of wireless
networks (WiFi) to transmit the video back to the DVR cutting
installation and expansion costs.
The XOS DVR is also much more efficient and user friendly in handling
searches, back-ups and monitoring than a complete NVR solution. Early
users have found IP cameras and NVR solutions unstable and harder to
manipulate. The answer is the XOS Hybrid DVR. Another problem facing NVR
technology is proper video authentication. The XOS DVR protects video
from both analog and IP cameras with an unalterable video authentication
encryption, making both types of cameras a secure source of security.
An IP Network Video Camera is a camera with a built-in web server that
can be controlled, monitored and viewed from virtually any location via
high-speed internet access. Network cameras are becoming more and more
popular in the security industry because the installation is much easier
using an existing LAN network, wireless applications are possible,
remote viewing capabilities, and prices of IP cameras have dropped.
Viewing these cameras is not a problem, however, recording them is. In
the past an NVR or encoders/decoders had to be used. This took away the
advantages of using an IP camera.
The XOS Hybrid DVR is the answer to many integrators’ problems. A direct
connection will take away the need for an NVR solution, allowing for a
more cost effective solution.

We have developed a new DVR by installing an embedded
operating system called XOS to power the Professional Series
DVRs. XOS serves as a superior alternative to Windows 98,
2000, and XP which were installed on previous systems. XOS
runs on read-only memory inside the DVR, which ensures
virus-free operation, faster boot-up times, self healing
capabilities, and automatic software/firmware updates via
the internet. The DVW Professional Series DVR provides users
with all the features of a PC DVR with the stability of an
embedded DVR. Real-time remote monitoring enables the user
to view, back-up and search up to 32 cameras on one system.
With high-speed recording of up to 480 frames per second,
users no longer worry about smoothness of video. High
resolution compression (4-6 KB) along with a patented
proprietary algorithm and up to 7.5 TB (7,500 GB) means

Powered by XOS
The XOS operating system was designed and developed and written
specifically to meet the needs and solve some of the problems of
the Security Industry and the DVR community. Past DVR systems
have run on Windows 98, 2000 or XP. The XOS was written to
improve security, speed and reliability of PC Based surveillance
systems. PC DVR systems are vulnerable to viruses, hacking
attacks, and other Windows slow downs. These security threats
have caused many in the industry to gravitate towards
Linux-based Embedded DVR’s. These are widely accepted as being
virus free and maintenance free for the user and installer.
However, PC Based DVR’s are undisputedly easier to use, capable
of storing more video, and are easier to integrate with POS and
card access systems. The XOS offers the best of both worlds;
the stability, quality, and security of an Embedded DVR while
giving the user the ease of use, high record resolution and long
term storage options of a PC DVR.
Technical Description
XOS runs on Microsoft’s stable XP kernel. The XOS install
footprint is 80% smaller than the full version of XP Pro. XOS
can also be sealed, protecting the DVR from malicious or
unintentional damage by the user or an online threat. Each time
the DVR is started, it returns to its default operating state
that can only be changed from the DVR by an authorized
operator. Unauthorized changes are discharged when the DVR is
restarted.
We use the XOS on the
Rackmount, Compact and Lite series DVR’s. The Rackmount and
Compact DVR’s utilize solid-sate flash memory to run the XOS.
This gives the DVR’s the speed and stability of embedded Linux.
No moving parts contribute to the long life expectancy of the
DVR. Video storage is still held on standard high speed SATA
Hard Drives. The XOS is built on two stable Intel Based
motherboards.
The XOS is NOTa substitute
for low-end Embedded DVR systems. It was designed to give the
same speed and stability to PC DVR systems that come inherently
